Hi all, I will share a blog series in which I introduce some of the Web 2.0 tools for teaching. They are frequently used in education.
EDMODO is the first Web 2.0 tool that I will introduce. It is one of the most widely known Learning Management Systems. It is a classroom management tool and social network built for education. It is designed for use by teachers, students and parents. It provides communication among students, parents and colleagues. Let's have a look at how Edmodo is used.
For Teachers
Whether you are a student or a teacher, you must first sign-up to use Edmodo.
After signing up, you must open a class and add your students. To create a class, you must click Create Class from the My Classes section on the left side of the page while on the home page. You can apply these steps by using the sample image above. In the window that opens, enter the class name, level and course information. You can also assign a color to distinguish the classes. After entering the information, click the Create button. To add students to the class, enter the class you created from the left menu. In the classroom, you will see the Add Students button on the right. When you click on it will give you a class code to add students. Using this code, students can join the class or you can invite them to your class via email. After you add students to the class, you can start doing some activities for them. You can perform these activities under the Posts menu. By using Edmodo, you can easily do everything you can think of with your students. You can assign quizzes and exams, you can see the students who have submitted their homework, you can grade, and also see the grade average of the class, make announcements, send messages, share files, upload and download class materials with your students via EDMODO.
For Students
You must first sign-up to use Edmodo. To join classes as a student, you need to click the student option. Then you can join the class with the class code provided by your teacher.
How Edmodo looks like for students is as above. In the classroom you can create a profile, see the assignments assigned to you, due dates, every document shared by the teacher, download them, and upload documents when submitting the assignments. You can message with different users, share anything with your class, add comments under the posts, see the grade of your assignment when it is graded, and even play games from the discover section.
